Vietnam attaches special importance to promoting cooperative relations with the United States.
On the afternoon of August 5, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received US Ambassador David Shear on the occasion of the Ambassador ending his term in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized that Vietnam attaches special importance to promoting cooperation with the United States in all fields, and hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen political and diplomatic cooperation. He affirmed that Vietnam is ready to exchange and dialogue with the United States on issues and fields, including human rights, in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding. He also hopes that the two sides will continue to promote economic cooperation activities because this is an area where the potential and advantages for cooperation between the two countries are still very large.
Regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, the Prime Minister said that this Agreement will open up great opportunities for economic, trade and investment cooperation activities between Vietnam and the United States. At the same time, he hoped that the United States would support and provide necessary flexibility for Vietnam, because compared to the negotiating parties, Vietnam is still at a low level of development.
Appreciating Mr. David Shear's positive contributions to the development of bilateral relations, the Prime Minister hoped that the Ambassador would continue to make practical contributions to promoting bilateral relations.
Ambassador David Shear said that during his term in Vietnam, he always received support, facilitation and close coordination from Vietnamese authorities.
The Ambassador proposed that the two sides continue to closely coordinate to promote economic, trade, investment cooperation, TPP negotiations... and affirmed that in his new position, he will continue to make positive contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
Regarding the East Sea issue, Ambassador David Shear said that peace, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea are the common interests of countries in the region, as well as the United States and countries around the world. According to the Ambassador, the root cause of insecurity and insecurity in the East Sea as well as the threat to peace and security in the region is China's unreasonable claim of sovereignty according to the "nine-dash line".
Ambassador David Shear affirmed that the US stance supports the settlement of disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means, on the basis of respect for international law. Vietnam has been very persistent, together with ASEAN countries, in requesting China to strictly implement international law, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and together negotiate towards a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).
