Vietnam hosts the 63rd WHO Western Pacific Regional Conference

On the afternoon of September 18, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Health held a press conference to introduce the 63rd Western Pacific Regional Conference of the World Health Organization (WHO), which was held in Vietnam for the first time.

At the press conference, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that the 63rd Western Pacific Regional Conference of the World Health Organization (WHO) will take place from September 24 to 28 in Hanoi. This year, the conference will have 33/37 countries and territories in the region (including Vietnam) with about 350 delegates registered to attend, including 22 delegations headed by Ministers of Health.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was elected as the Chair of this year's Conference, so Vietnam will participate in all technical discussions in a proactive and positive spirit and make the highest contribution to the Conference. In particular, on the sidelines of the Conference, Vietnam will host an Initiative on "High-level Forum on Universal Health Coverage" co-chaired by the Minister of Health of Vietnam and the Director of the Asia Pacific Region.

The WHO Western Pacific Regional Conference is the largest and most important health conference in the region. Traditionally, the conference will focus on discussing and solving outstanding health issues in the region, developing policies and approving action programs for the following years with the goal of caring for and improving people's health in the entire region and contributing to the implementation of global health goals.

The conference will be attended by senior officials such as the Regional Directors of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Asia and the Pacific, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP), other United Nations agencies, the Deputy Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Regional Director of the Western Pacific of WHO, major partners in the world and many non-governmental organizations actively working in the health sector.

This year, the specialized contents discussed at the conference include issues such as: Prevention of violence and injuries, neglected tropical diseases, measles elimination, nutrition, tobacco harm prevention, non-communicable diseases, health-related Millennium Development Goals, health financing, malaria, expanded immunization, International Health Regulations, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, reproductive health...

In particular, this year's Conference also included a high-level discussion on Nutrition, with the participation of the Asia Pacific Regional Directors of FAO, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.

It is expected that 5 Resolutions and 5 Strategies and Action Plans of the Western Pacific Region in specialized fields will be adopted at this conference.../.
