Vietnam held to a draw by Thailand at the Southeast Asian U19 tournament

Throughout the first half, Vietnam dominated the game. The ball almost only rolled on the Thai side of the field. However, the red team's attacks were not sharp and fast enough to penetrate the opponent's crowded defense. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team enjoyed a series of corner kicks, but their aerial attacks all missed the target.

After the break, coach Hoang Anh Tuan adjusted the playing style. The moves down the flank and then into the middle were effective. Many opportunities were created by Vietnam in the first 20 minutes of the second half, butBao Toan, Hong Son, Manh Dung, and Huu Thang all failed to beat the goalkeeper in close-range situations. Standing on the sidelines, coach Hoang Anh Tuan held his head in regret, not understanding why his players finished so poorly.

With about 15 minutes left in the match, he decided to let Vietnam switch to playing with three strikers, including Minh Binh, Manh Dung and Xuan Tu. About five more good chances were created but the Thai goalkeeper played brilliantly, continuously blocking them. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team had one chance to put the ball into the opponent's goal but the referee did not recognize the goal because he thought the striker in red had committed a foul.

The 0-0 result was maintained until the end of the match. On the sidelines, coach Hoang Anh Tuan appeared dissatisfied.

The U19 Southeast Asian Championship took place in Indonesia. Vietnam was in Group A with Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Laos and the Philippines. Group B included Malaysia, Myanmar, Timor Leste, Cambodia and Brunei. The teams competed in a round robin to select the two teams with the best scores in each group to qualify for the semi-finals.
