This year's Vietnamese delegation had 6 students, of which Mai Dang Quan Anh and Dinh Anh Dung won gold medals, Nguyen Bang Thanh Lam and Nguyen Duc Quang won silver medals, and Nguyen Minh Chinh won bronze medals.

All 5 prize-winning students are 10th grade students of Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.

The competition took place from December 3 to 10 with the participation of 234 students from 41 countries and territories.

Speaking to VNA reporters, Mr. Le Ngoc Quang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, head of the Vietnamese delegation, said that at this year's competition, only about 10 countries won gold medals and 5 countries won 2 gold medals or more.

In the competition in India last year, the Vietnamese team won 1 gold medal and 5 silver medals. It was the first time Vietnam won a gold medal at the International Junior Science Olympiad.

IJSO is held annually for students under 15 years old, competing in physics, chemistry and biology. Students participating in the exam must go through three parts, including: multiple choice examination, theoretical examination, and experimental examination.

Each test is a practical problem that requires students to flexibly and proficiently apply basic scientific knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics to solve it successfully.

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Quang, this is still a new competition for our country's students because of its comprehensiveness and breadth of knowledge. The achievements of the Vietnamese delegation at this year's competition will be a stepping stone for the journey to higher achievements at the International Mathematical, Physics, Chemistry and Biology Olympiads.

IJSO was first held in 2004 in Indonesia. This is the 7th time Vietnam has sent students to participate in the tournament and the 5th consecutive time that the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has been authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to organize, select and establish a team representing Vietnam to participate.
