Vietnam won 3 gold medals on the first day of the Southeast Asian shooting tournament.

On the first day of competition (November 3), Vietnamese shooters won three gold medals at the tournament held in Hanoi.

The three competitions include: 25m women's sport pistol youth, 50m women's rifle lying down and 50m women's rifle lying down youth.

With 1,655 points, the female shooters brought home the first gold medal for host Vietnam in the 25m pistol event for women in the youth category. Among them, Le Thi Nga scored 559 points, Nguyen Thi Van Anh won 552 points and Phan Thi Hoai Nguyen 544 points. The second place went to the Thai team, with 1,424 points.

With the above score, Le Thi Nga also won a bronze medal.personal content. The gold medalist was Pratiwi of Indonesia with 571 points, Nik Nor Rosdi of Malaysia won the silver medal with 561 points.

Vietnam's number one shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh will not participate in this tournament.

Continuing the motivation of her teammates, shooter Duong Thi Luyen competed successfully in the women's 50m rifle lying down event. After 6 rounds, Luyen scored 602.7 points to win the gold medal.

Similar content but in the youth category, shooters Tran Thi Minh Trang – Bui Thu Ha – Mai Thuy Linh also won with a total of 1,779.9 points – ranking above the trio of Thailand (1,745 points). In terms of individual achievements, Tran Thi Minh Trang won the bronze medal with 598.9 points, ranking behind Tarmiyi of Malaysia (603.2 points) and Toyyiba of Indonesia (600.6 points).

After the first day of competition, Vietnam led with 3 gold medals and 2 bronze medals.

The 40th Southeast Asian Shooting Championship will take place at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi from November 3 to November 11. Nearly 300 athletes and coaches from 9 countries in the region and continent will participate, including: Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau and host Vietnam. The athletes will compete in 18 men's and 18 women's events.

Vietnam's number one shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh did not participate in this tournament because he was in the process of recovering, after competing in the 2016 Olympics - where he won one gold medal and one silver medal.
