Vietnam attends the 22nd session of the UN Human Rights Council
The Vietnamese delegation led by Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh attended the 22nd annual session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, which opened on February 25 at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting was also attended by delegations from many international organizations and dozens of countries around the world.
Mr. Vuk Jeremic, former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Serbia, President of the United Nations General Assembly expressed his honor to speak at the opening ceremony of the 22nd session of the Human Rights Council, established under Resolution No. 60/251 of the General Assembly.
At the meeting, which is scheduled to last from February 25 to March 22, delegates will discuss a series of topics such as assessing the functions of the Human Rights Council; Rights for persons with disabilities, Children's rights; Strengthening technical cooperation in the field of human rights protection...
Notably, on the very first day of the opening session, delegates spent a lot of time discussing the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action (VDPA) on the occasion of the 20th anniversary (1993-2013) of the founding of the VDPA.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay said the VDPA is a human rights declaration based on consensus at the World Conference on Human Rights on June 25, 1993 in Vienna, Austria.
The high-level meeting of this 22nd session focused specifically on the implementation, achievements of the VDPA, actions and challenges in this area.
2013 will see a number of events and activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of VAPA with the aim of maximizing awareness and achievements of VDPA.
In the next sessions, the Human Rights Council will discuss the human rights situation and consider reports from the working group under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of countries including the Czech Republic, Argentina, Gabon, Ghana, Ukraine, Guatemala, Benin, South Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Pakistan, Zambia, Peru, and Sri Lanka./.
