Vietnam ranks 12th in Asia, 97th in the world in terms of Internet speed

Akamai Technologies - a large global server network operator headquartered in Massachusetts, USA - recently released a report stating that Vietnam's average internet speed ranks 12th in Asia.

TNKH radio quoted Akamai Technologies as saying that the countries with the highest Internet speeds in Asia are South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong (China); while India has the lowest speed, ranking 15th.

The company noted that in the third quarter of 2015, Vietnam's average speed was 3.4 Megabits per second (Mbps), higher than India (2.5 Mbps).

In addition, South Korea also holds the number 1 position in the world in terms of Internet speed; while Vietnam ranks 97th, above 3 other Asian countries: Indonesia, Philippines and India. China ranks above Vietnam and holds the 91st position in the world.

According to Akamai Technologies definition, broadband Internet connection must have a speed of over 4 Mbps. As of the third quarter of 2015, 31% of Vietnam's lines reached the above speed, while China had 33%, the Philippines only had 10% and India had 14%.

Regarding high-speed transmission, over 10 Mbps, Vietnam only achieved a rate of 0.6%, ranking 71st in the world in this criterion; meanwhile, the first-ranked country is South Korea with 68%./.
