Vietnam sends "The Scent of Burning Grass" to Oscar 2013
The 2012 Golden Kite Award-winning film has surpassed many other strong candidates to represent Vietnam in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2013 Oscars.

"The Scent of Burning Grass" also meets all the criteria set by the American Film Academy for the Best Foreign Language Film category. That is, it was released between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012, and was shown commercially for at least 7 consecutive days in the domestic market. This is also a film that is highly rated for its quality, has English subtitles, and was produced in 2011.
Up to now, "Mui Co Chay" is also the film with the most achievements among the films completed in 2011. At the Golden Kite Awards held in Hanoi in March 2012, "Mui Co Chay" was awarded the Best Film and won individual awards for Best Screenplay, Cinematography and Music. Previously, this film also won the Silver Lotus and Best Screenplay awards at the 17th Vietnam Film Festival held in Phu Yen in December 2011.
Because of these achievements, "Mui Co Chay" has achieved a high level of consensus among the members of the Oscar Film Selection Board. This is the year that we have selected the earliest film to submit to the Oscar, many days before the submission deadline (October 1). Last year, the film "Khat Vong Thang Long" by director Luu Trong Ninh was chosen to represent Vietnam at the 2012 Oscars but did not make it to the nomination round. Before that, the films Ao lua Ha Dong, Mua len trau, Dung dot... also returned empty-handed.
