As planned, the meeting will discuss and decide on the specific content of more than 50 relevant resolutions, to soon submit to the United Nations General Assembly for consideration and approval.

Speaking at the general discussion, Ambassador Le Hoai Trung, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized Vietnam's consistent policy of promoting peace, supporting comprehensive and complete disarmament, with high priority given to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.

According to the Ambassador, Vietnam's consistent view is that the promotion of international disarmament issues needs to be carried out in a balanced and comprehensive manner, including the implementation of the Action Program of the 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in preparation for the next review conference, to be held in 2015.

Regarding the use of nuclear energy for civilian purposes, Ambassador Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam always cooperates closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in ensuring nuclear security and safety during the process of building nuclear energy infrastructure in Vietnam; at the same time, he affirmed that Vietnam will make every effort to fulfill its responsibility as Chairman of the IAEA Board of Governors for the 2013-2014 term.

Ambassador Le Hoai Trung also affirmed that in the context of the international community facing many security challenges, as well as difficulties and challenges in preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, disarmament, etc., it is important to create an environment of strategic trust, helping countries see common interests in working together to achieve new progress in this field, for the benefit of global peace and security./.
