“Vietnam is extremely concerned about the DPRK’s test-launch of the Mars 14 intercontinental ballistic missile on July 4, which seriously violates relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and increases tensions in the region,” Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Vietnam consistently supports all efforts to promote dialogue and maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
“Vietnam calls on all parties to strictly comply with relevant resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and take constructive and practical actions to contribute to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and the world,” said Ms. Hang.
On July 4, North Korea launched a ballistic missile into the East Sea from Banghyon, North Pyongan Province, a province near the border with China. The missile flew 933km and reached an altitude of 2,802km in 39 minutes before hitting a simulated target in the East Sea.
North Korea's latest missile launch comes just a day after Pyongyang claimed to possess a missile that can strike any target on Earth with high speed and precision. North Korean news agencyKCNAThe launch marked the first time Pyongyang had successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile, the report said.
Pyongyang is believed to be focusing on developing intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) with nuclear warheads capable of attacking the US mainland. The country has conducted five nuclear tests since 2006 and about 30 ballistic missile tests in 2016./.
