Vietnam hopes IMF will continue to support socio-economic development
President Truong Tan Sang emphasized that Vietnam appreciates and hopes that the IMF will contribute frank recommendations and support Vietnam in finding more preferential loans to serve the process of sustainable economic development.

On March 16, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang received Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.
Appreciating the IMF's assistance in many areas, especially preferential loans and policy advice, the President said that in the process of strong economic reform, Vietnam will focus on restructuring banks, reforming state-owned enterprises, promoting more strongly the development of the private economy, and focusing on attracting foreign investment. In parallel with that process, Vietnam will strongly transform the agricultural economy.
In this process, Vietnam appreciates and hopes that the IMF will contribute frank recommendations; at the same time, support Vietnam in finding more preferential loans to serve the process of sustainable economic development.
Emphasizing Vietnam's main achievements in recent times, including poverty reduction, successful inflation control and universal primary education, Ms. Christine Lagarde said that, along with the help of foreign organizations, including the IMF, Vietnam's correct development path and economic strength are decisive factors.
Ms. Christine Lagarde also highly appreciated Vietnam's development strategy towards quality and sustainability, proactiveness and non-dependence on other countries. The IMF wishes to cooperate more strongly with Vietnam in areas where the organization has strengths, and committed to making efforts to support Vietnam in providing technical assistance packages to help Vietnam achieve macroeconomic stability.
*On the same day, at the Presidential Palace, President Truong Tan Sang attended and witnessed the signing ceremony of the Agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Vietnam and Hungary signed by Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme People's Procuracy Nguyen Hoa Binh and Hungarian Minister of Justice Laszlo Trochani.
The agreement contributes to perfecting the legal cooperation framework between Vietnam and Hungary, and is also the basis for law enforcement agencies of the two countries to increase mutual support in investigating, prosecuting and trying criminal cases, in order to effectively combat criminal activities, especially transnational organized crime, and better protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens of the two countries.
The signing of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters will also contribute to promoting cooperation in other fields between Vietnam and Hungary, thereby actively contributing to deepening the good traditional relations between the two countries.
