Vietnam wants to develop cooperative relations with Haiti
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam values and wishes to develop friendly relations and cooperation with the Republic of Haiti in all fields, serving the development of both countries.

Speaking at a meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Haiti Laurent Salvador Lamothe, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from December 16-19, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung considered Prime Minister Lamothe's visit - the first high-level visit by a Haitian leader to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations (September 26, 1997), a milestone of historical significance, creating an important impetus to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
The Prime Minister highly appreciated Haiti's achievements in maintaining political stability, socio-economic development and expanding foreign relations; and admired the efforts of the Haitian Government and people in overcoming the consequences of the 2010 earthquake.
For his part, Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe praised the heroic struggle for independence, freedom and national reunification of the Vietnamese people as well as Vietnam's great achievements in the renovation process; thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their solidarity and valuable support for Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe affirmed his interest in developing cooperation with Vietnam in a number of areas such as food security and telecommunications, trade, culture and education.
The two sides discussed measures to strengthen the development cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, including increasing the exchange of delegations at all levels to enhance mutual understanding and trust; focusing on promoting cooperation in potential areas such as trade, telecommunications, agriculture and construction, taking advantage of flexible mechanisms to enhance exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, education, health, food security, and poverty reduction. The two sides committed to discussing to establish a long-term strategic partnership on security and food.
In addition, the two sides agreed to promote the establishment of favorable legal mechanisms and frameworks for cooperation; initiate negotiations on agreements on framework cooperation, investment promotion and protection, food security cooperation, industrial cooperation, culture-sports-tourism, visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders. The two sides pledged to encourage and facilitate cooperation, business and investment between organizations and enterprises of the two countries on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, in accordance with the laws of each country.
The two leaders highly appreciated the performance of the NATCOM Joint Venture between the Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group (Viettel) and the Haitian Ministry of Economy and Finance, considering it a good model that should be expanded to other fields.
The two leaders also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, agreeing that the two sides will continue to cooperate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums for peace, stability and development in the two regions and the world.
Regarding the situation in the East Sea, Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe supported the determination of regional countries to maintain a peaceful and stable environment and resolve disputes in the East Sea through peaceful negotiations, on the basis of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

After the talks, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe signed the Vietnam-Haiti Joint Communique and witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Establishing a Strategic Investment Partnership between Viettel and the Government of Haiti.
Meeting with the press of both countries and the international press to announce the results of the talks, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that the two sides had a successful meeting, discussing the situation of each country, proposing directions and measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation, identifying priority areas of cooperation, initiating negotiations on six important agreements on economics, consular affairs, investment, agriculture, culture and tourism, and pledging to support trade and investment projects, promote cooperation in agriculture, science and technology and a number of other areas. Vietnam is ready to provide stable food to ensure food security for Haiti.
The two Prime Ministers exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues, agreeing to enhance consultation, coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums to jointly protect the interests and enhance the position of each country. The Vietnamese Government expressed its gratitude and appreciation for the Haitian Government's recognition of Vietnam's market economy status and support for Vietnam's candidacy for a number of important United Nations agencies in the coming time.
The Haitian Prime Minister said that Vietnam and Haiti have many historical similarities, great potential for cooperation and many similarities that can complement each other. The Haitian Prime Minister said that the goal of this visit to Vietnam is to further strengthen cooperation in the three areas of politics, economics and culture. Recognizing that there is much potential for cooperation between the two countries as well as many similarities that can complement each other, the Haitian Prime Minister invited Vietnamese businesses, especially in the fields of telecommunications and textiles, to invest in Haiti's export processing zones.
On the same day, Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang, and had a meeting with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung./.
