Vietnam upgrades 37mm automatic fire control cannon
Upgrading and modernizing 37mm anti-aircraft guns gives this weapon superior combat power, helping them to be effective in modern warfare.
Currently, the Vietnam People's Army still has many old generation 37mm anti-aircraft guns.
Due to decades of use, many cannons have deteriorated and need to have non-synchronous spare parts replaced.
Besides, the development of high-tech warfare with the advent of super-fast fighters, cruise missiles with low radar cross-section and terrain-hugging flight has made the role of anti-aircraft artillery fade.
Faced with the above situation, upgrading these outdated anti-aircraft guns with automatic control technology and modern electronic equipment to help them continue to function effectively in the new era is an urgent requirement.
Vietnam's 37mm anti-aircraft guns are being modernized. |
Recently, officers and engineers of the Military Technical Automation Institute have carried out a program to modernize 37mm and 57mm anti-aircraft guns, aiming to retain all of these weapon systems while the defense budget does not allow for replacement.
Based on domestically available technologies and materials,The Military Technical Automation Institute has focused on researching and improving integrated reconnaissance and fire control equipment to give the 37mm cannon new features.
The features include detecting targets at a range of 20 km day and night under electronic jamming conditions, with an electro-optical tracking device mounted on the command vehicle to detect and track targets with high accuracy.

In addition, the battery is also equipped with the TBDK-PH37 communication system to help transmit commands from the commander to gunners at all artillery platforms more accurately.
The 37mm anti-aircraft gun battery was now networked into a system that allowed the Company Commander to directly fire all guns under his command simultaneously, creating a reliable density of fire.
With this upgrade package, Vietnam's 37mm and 57mm anti-aircraft guns have a target destruction probability superior to the original, with features comparable to today's advanced anti-aircraft artillery systems.
In the future, if electronically-fused bullets are integrated and fired through a unified team, it can be affirmed that this weapon fully meets all requirements of modern warfare.
