Vietnam successfully produces 30mm bullets
Vietnam's successful manufacture of 30mm ammunition helps our weapons and equipment operate with peace of mind without having to worry about importing ammunition.
According to the People's Army Newspaper, the Institute of Weapons under the General Department of Defense Industry (GDDI) has successfully manufactured and tested 30mm ammunition for the AK-630 (or AK-630M) naval gun - the type of gun currently equipped on the Molniya missile boat and the Gepard warship of the Vietnam Navy.

Currently, the AK-630 and AK-630M are automatic naval guns that use 30mm YOF-84 ammunition manufactured in Russia and are commonly equipped on warships of the navies of several countries, including Vietnam.
To serve training and drill missions, every year we have to consume a large amount of imported 30mm ammunition, costing a large amount of the State budget.
To solve this problem, since 2013, the Institute of Weapons (General Department of Defense Industry) has been assigned by the Head of the Ministry of National Defense to carry out the project "Research, design and test production of 30mm naval artillery shells" and immediately after that, it has been actively carried out.
The successful manufacture of the 30mm DPST-30 bullet (Vietnam's version of the YOF-84 bullet) shows that with the technological capacity of the domestic defense industry, it is completely possible to manufacture this type of bullet and also move towards researching and producing other types of bullets.
Through test firings under the close supervision of the authorities, the project "Completing the design and construction of technology to manufacture 30mm naval artillery shells DPST-30" undertaken by the Institute of Weapons was successful.
According to public information, along with self-sufficiency in ammunition, Vietnam has also successfully produced AK-630M artillery.
The AK-630M is considered the last "shield", used in case the anti-aircraft missile-artillery system cannot destroy all anti-ship missiles threatening the warship. The gun has a firing rate of up to nearly 10,000 rounds/minute.
