On March 25, Dr. Lai Van Hung, Director of the Institute of Lexicography and Encyclopedia (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) said that it is expected that in the next 8-10 years, Vietnam will complete the National Encyclopedia.

This encyclopedia has about 35 volumes with 30,000 entries, each volume 1,000 large pages.

This is a fairly new field for Vietnam in general and for the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in particular. Therefore, the Institute has begun to pilot the construction of a number of encyclopedias on literature, lexicography, economics, etc. In particular, scientists have studied domestic and international experiences to apply when building the encyclopedia.

In the world, the compilation and publication of encyclopedias has been very developed. In the Asian region, many countries have encyclopedias such as Japan, which has an encyclopedia published in two languages, in Japanese for Japanese people and English for foreigners. China has a National Encyclopedia, an encyclopedia for each province, and currently China is compiling encyclopedias for each gender and each group of people.

Experts say that building an encyclopedia takes a lot of time, so experience in other countries shows that the fastest method is to compile by industry, then gather to compile by rhyme./.
