Vietnam attends Asian cultural and culinary fair in Egypt
This is an annual humanitarian activity aimed at connecting cultures, co-organized by the Association of Asian Embassies' Wives in Egypt.
On November 11, in Cairo, Egypt, the “2017 International Charity Bazaar” took place, attracting a large number of local people and members of the Diplomatic Corps of Asian countries in Egypt. This is an annual humanitarian activity to connect cultures, organized by the Association of Asian Embassy Wives in coordination with the Egyptian Charity Association.
About a thousand people attended this special event to learn about the culture and cuisine of more than 50 booths from nearly 20 Asian countries, including Vietnam, China, Japan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and many other ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
This year's fair takes place with a series of very rich activities: from cultural and artistic exchanges to introducing national specialties and promoting tourism.

Participating in this Fair, the Women's Union of the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt prepared Vietnamese food and handicraft stalls as well as promotional materials about the country and people of Vietnam. The food stalls were visited by many international diners who enjoyed fried spring rolls and beef pho with bold Vietnamese flavors.

“Today, I went to the Vietnamese booth at the Conrad Hotel and enjoyed fried spring rolls. I was also impressed by the delicious Vietnamese pho. I also love your culture, a very familiar culture,” said Mr. Mohamed, an Egyptian citizen after visiting the Vietnamese food booths.
In addition, handicraft products such as wooden statues of Vietnamese girls wearing ao dai or Vietnamese branded silk scarves have also attracted many customers.
Emphasizing the significance of participating in the Fair, the representative of the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt, Mr. Vu Thien, Deputy Ambassador said: “This activity has great significance, conveying messages: one is to contribute to the humanitarian activities of the diplomatic corps for Egypt; two is through this activity, to convey the cultures and cuisines of the countries in this charity activity in Cairo.”
In particular, this is also a very meaningful learning opportunity for Vietnamese students studying in Egypt. Duong Thi Thom, a student at Ho Chi Minh City National University, studying at the Cairo University Language Training Center, said: This is the first time I have participated in an international charity fair abroad.
“I am very happy because I can contribute my efforts to the booth of the Vietnamese Embassy in Egypt, introducing to international friends about cuisine, culture as well as handicraft products. Besides, I also directly participate in booths of countries in Asia in general and ASEAN in particular, helping me understand more about the customs and cultural characteristics of other countries.”
Proceeds from the sales will be donated directly to the Egyptian charity fund for social activities to support people in difficult circumstances. The fair demonstrates the spirit of international solidarity and sharing of the Diplomatic Corps of Asian countries with the host country Egypt./.
