As part of the IPU's activities, the World Conference of Women Speakers of Parliament is a meeting mechanism for female Speakers, first held on the occasion of the 2nd Summit of Speakers of Parliament in 2005 in New York, USA.

Since then, the Conference of Women Speakers of Parliament has been held annually with the aim of promoting gender equality, enhancing the role and participation of women in political activities, contributing to solving issues for girls and women such as protecting and empowering girls, and combating violence against women and children.
