This is the 36th time Vietnam has participated in the IMO competitions. According to the program, the contestants will take the exams on July 10 and 11. The results of the competition will be announced on July 15.
The IMO was first held in 1959 in Romania with only 7 delegations participating.

In 2007, Vietnam hosted the IMO for the first time. With the participation of 523 students from 95 countries and territories, this was the largest competition up to that time.
Many IMO winners later became famous mathematicians, including those – like Professor Ngo Bao Chau – who won the Fields Medal, considered the Nobel Prize in Mathematics.
This is the second time Argentina has hosted the world's most important competition in the field of Mathematics for high school students, after organizing this competition in 1997, also in the famous tourist city of Mar del Plata.
