The entire shipment will be delivered within 3 months at a price of USD 462.25/ton.

The Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines said that the Philippine Rice Import Bureau announced on November 27 that Vietnam won the bid to supply 500,000 tons of rice to the country due to lower prices than Thailand. This amount of rice is to increase the Philippines' food reserves after super typhoon Haiyan.

Accordingly, the entire shipment will be delivered within 3 months at a price of 462.25 USD/ton and the first delivery will be at least 120,000 tons on December 31.

Thailand offered a price of 475 USD/ton while Cambodia, one of the three countries invited to participate in this bidding, did not participate in the bidding.

Unlike previous bidding sessions, this time the Philippines only invited representatives from three countries to participate in the bidding and private suppliers were not allowed to participate.

Both Vietnam and Thailand are participating in offering 25% broken, white, long grain rice.

Mr. Orlan Calayag, the executive director of the NFA, said that the NFA believes that all terms of Vietnam are acceptable. And the official approval of the winning bid will be held in the next few days.

Haiyan, the world's largest super typhoon, made landfall in the central Philippines on November 8, killing more than 5,200 people, leaving about 4 million homeless, and destroying at least P24 billion (US$547 million) worth of crops and infrastructure./.
