Director General of the Monetary Office of the Haiti Development Assistance Program (BMPAD), Michael Lecorps, highly appreciated the quality of Vietnamese rice, and said that importing rice from Vietnam contributes to stabilizing prices in this Caribbean country.

Last March, Haiti received its first shipment of 400 tons of rice from Vietnam. Mr. Lecorps announced that in the coming weeks, the country will receive two more shipments, totaling 33,000 tons, allowing for increased supply and helping to reduce the pressure on prices in the market.

According to this official, to ensure price stability in the market, Haiti needs to import a large amount of rice, with quality and price accessible to the people. Rice imported from Vietnam has lower quality and price than similar products on the market. In addition, Vietnamese rice does not need much water and cooks quickly, so it saves coal when cooking.

Mr. Lecorps affirmed that the decrease in rice prices will contribute to the decrease in prices of other commodities on the Haitian market.

In an interview with VNA during his visit to Vietnam last December, Haitian Prime Minister Laurent Salvador Lamothe said Haiti consumes 400,000 tons of rice each year, but only produces 100,000 tons, leaving 300,000 tons to be imported.

He also said that Vietnamese agricultural experts have come to Haiti not only to study the possibility of exporting rice, but also to help Haiti increase production of this food grain./.
