Vietnam elected to UN Human Rights Council with highest number of votes
On the morning of November 12, 2013 (New York time), the 68th United Nations General Assembly voted to elect 14 new member countries of the Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 term.

With 184 votes in favor out of 192 votes, Vietnam was elected with the highest number of votes among 14 new member countries and became a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the first time.
Vietnam's membership in the Human Rights Council is an important event marking a new step forward in efforts to implement an independent, autonomous, active and proactive foreign policy of international integration in the spirit of the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress and Resolution 22 of the Politburo on international integration.
This is also the international community's recognition of Vietnam's achievements in increasingly ensuring people's rights in all fields of politics, society, economy, culture, education, religion, belief, etc.
Vietnam's election with a high number of votes also shows the country's increasing position and prestige in the international arena.
During the upcoming three-year term as a member of the Human Rights Council, Vietnam will have the opportunity to directly and responsibly contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights values worldwide, as well as have the opportunity to share and learn good experiences from international friends to ensure the increasingly better enjoyment of the rights of every Vietnamese citizen./.
