Vietnam applies Nano technology to pharmaceutical production
On September 29, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Vietnam Internal Medicine Association organized a workshop on "Application of Nanotechnology in Medicine and Pharmacy, Initial Application of Nano Curcumin in Disease Prevention and Treatment".
The workshop was co-chaired by Professor, Academician Nguyen Van Hieu, Chairman of the Scientific Council of Materials Science, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Khanh Trach, Chairman of the Vietnam Internal Medicine Association.
Reports presented at the conference clearly stated that Curcumin is the main active ingredient that creates the yellow color and effects of turmeric. Many experimental and clinical studies have proven that Curcumin has many valuable biological activities such as: anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, liver and kidney protection, prevention of myocardial infarction, etc.

Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is the first unit in our country to successfully extract Nano Curcumin from turmeric, with nano particle size of 50-70nm, water solubility of 10%, with quality standards equivalent to American Nano Curcumin products, higher than products from India, China...
At the workshop, Professor Dao Van Phan - Former Head of the Department of Pharmacology, Hanoi Medical University said that in traditional medicine, turmeric (Curcuma longa) is used as a medicine with many uses such as wound healing, scar reduction, stomach pain treatment, liver detoxification, uterine contraction after childbirth... However, the main limitation limiting the ability to apply Curcumin in treatment is its very low solubility and absorption. Therefore, nanotechnology has overcome this barrier, helping to increase absorption to 95% and the treatment effectiveness of nano Curcumin is nearly 40 times compared to regular Curcumin, bringing new hope to chronic patients.
According to Professor Nguyen Van Hieu, the first successful application of Nano technology in the production of Cumargold pharmaceuticals in our country has marked an effective start for the model of cooperation in transferring research topics between scientists and manufacturers. At the same time, this is also a step forward for the Vietnamese pharmaceutical industry in bringing scientific research products into practical life.
At the workshop, the delegates listened to researchers present many outstanding issues such as: "21st century - Awakening the potential of turmeric - a precious medicinal herb in traditional medicine"; "Research on manufacturing water-soluble nano-sized Micelle Polymer particles to produce nano curcumin"; "Research on comparing the penetration ability and activity against some cancer cell lines of nano curcumin with regular curcumin" .../.
