In response to information published by some Western media outlets reflecting China's announcement on July 12 of successfully landing a civilian aircraft on Vành Khăn and Subi reefs, the Chinese Ministry of Transport previously announced that the country had completed four lighthouses and broken ground on the fifth lighthouse on Vietnam's Trường Sa archipelago, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh said at a regular press conference on the afternoon of July 14:
“Vietnam once again affirms that it has sufficient legal basis and historical evidence to assert its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. Despite Vietnam’s protests and the concerns of the international community, China’s activities seriously violate Vietnam’s sovereignty, are illegal and cannot change the truth about Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.
“Vietnam demands that China immediately stop all activities that violate Vietnam's sovereignty, strictly comply with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and not take any further actions that further complicate the situation in the East Sea.”./.
