Vietnam and China agree on many major directions to promote relations

On September 7, President Truong Tan Sang met with General Secretary and President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao.

At the meeting in Vladivostok, Russian Federation, the leaders of the two countries agreed that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and China, which has been cultivated by generations of previous leaders and people of the two countries, is a valuable asset of the people of the two countries and both sides must have the responsibility to inherit, preserve and promote it.

President Truong Tan Sang affirmed to continuously strengthen and consolidate the friendly relations between Vietnam and the world.Male- China is a consistent, long-term, strategic policy of the Vietnamese Party and State.Male.

General Secretary and President Hu Jintao affirmed that the Party, State and people of China highly value the friendship with the Party, State and people of Vietnam and expressed his joy that over the past years, with the joint efforts of both sides, the relationship between the two countries has continuously moved forward.

President Truong Tan Sang and General Secretary and President Hu Jintao said that in the current situation, continuously enhancing political trust and further deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China is of utmost importance.


The two leaders agreed on many major directions to promote bilateral relations in the coming time, such as maintaining and increasing visits and contacts between high-ranking leaders of the two countries; promoting mutually beneficial substantive cooperation in all fields, especially in economics and trade; enhancing people-to-people exchange activities, especially between the young generations of the two countries; enhancing propaganda about the friendship between the people of the two countries; and closely coordinating at regional and international forums.

Regarding maritime issues, the two sides need to persevere through negotiations and dialogue to satisfactorily resolve the East Sea issue by peaceful means, and not let the East Sea issue affect the stable development of bilateral relations.


President Truong Tan Sang stated that in the process of resolving the East Sea issue, the two sides need to seriously implement the Agreement on basic principles guiding the resolution of maritime issues, satisfactorily resolve all disputes and newly arising issues through peaceful negotiations, on the basis of international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and move towards a Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

On behalf of the Party and State of Vietnam, President Truong Tan Sang wished the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China great success./.
