Vietnam Airlines proposed to "buy" terminal T1 directly, pricing according to current regulations.

“In many countries around the world, it is now very common for major airlines to have their own terminals at their base airports to serve their own flights and passengers. This form is consistent with the Ministry of Transport’s policy of socializing airport infrastructure,” the document signed by Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airlines Corporation Pham Viet Thanh and sent to the Ministry of Transport stated.

Vietnam Airlines has requested the Ministry of Transport to allow it to purchase the entire domestic terminal T1 at Noi Bai International Airport to manage, operate and serve passengers and flights of the Corporation to/from (domestic) Noi Bai Airport.

“This method will create conditions for the airline directly assigned to manage and use to find measures to reduce costs in air transport, improve business efficiency; be flexible and proactive in arranging operations at the terminal, waiting rooms, counters and premises in the terminal to improve service quality and facilitate operations,” Mr. Thanh said, adding that direct management and responsibility will ensure improved service quality and convenience for passengers.

A notable point in this proposal of Vietnam Airlines is that the Corporation proposes to purchase directly according to current pricing regulations, not to transfer the exploitation rights for a limited period. Vietnam Airlines will mobilize capital from the Corporation and enterprises with capital contributions, at the same time as mobilizing capital from outside enterprises and individuals.

Not long ago, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company Nguyen Thanh Hung sent a document to the Ministry of Transport proposing to be granted the commercial exploitation rights of the entire T1 passenger terminal at Noi Bai International Airport for a period of 20 years.

Previously, to create investment capital for new projects such as Long Thanh International Airport as well as some investment items at other airports to develop the overall transport infrastructure, including aviation infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport advocated socializing investment in aviation infrastructure in the form of concessions for exploitation, or selling some terminals or the entire airport.
