VietnamPlus wins two journalism awards for fighting corruption
VietnamPlus e-newspaper was honored to receive the B and Encouragement Prizes of the Press Award for its work in the fight against corruption and waste in 2017 in the e-newspaper category.
According to the representative of the organizing committee, there were 1,126 press works in the categories of print, television, radio and electronic newspapers. After consideration and discussion, the council decided to award prizes to 32 press works from A prize to Encouragement prize.
VietnamPlus e-newspaper was honored to receive the B prize with a series of 5 articles "The breakdown of small hydropower planning in the northern mountainous provinces" by author Vo Manh Hung and the Encouragement prize for the work "The painful tricks of 'embezzling the rice granary' of the health insurance fund" by author Cao Thi Thuy Giang.
The two works that won the A prize were: “The major surgery of trillion-dollar ‘tumors’…” by the group of authors Thu Ha, Quang Hung, Hoang Anh, Ngoc Long, Ngo Quang Dung, Dang Giang, Thanh Phong of Nhan Dan newspaper; “If you can resist ‘running’ you will succeed” by author Nguyen Hoa Van of Nguoi Lam Bao magazine.

Congratulating the authors who were honored with the award, President Tran Dai Quang acknowledged and highly appreciated the great contributions of journalists nationwide.
President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that the Party and State always pay special attention to the fight against corruption and waste. The Party, State and people always respect and appreciate the press agencies that have performed well the function of social supervision and criticism, actively propagating and disseminating the Party's viewpoints, guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and policies on the prevention and fight against corruption and waste.
“The press also promptly and truthfully reflects weaknesses, negative aspects, bureaucracy, corruption, and waste, while encouraging and setting examples of good people, good deeds, new factors, and advanced models in the fight against corruption and waste. Thousands of press works written on this topic, especially award-winning works, are vivid evidence of the important role of press agencies and journalists in the extremely difficult and complicated fight against internal invaders,” President Tran Dai Quang emphasized.
To continue promoting the vanguard role, President Tran Dai Quang suggested further promoting the role of the press, especially valuing objectivity, truthfulness, professionalism, promoting social responsibility, civic duty and professional ethics of journalists in detecting and fighting corruption and waste.
Looking back at the award-winning works, Mr. Tran Thanh Man - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that the works selected for the final round and awarded today have good professional quality, demonstrating the high sense of responsibility of journalists, the spirit of dedication, self-sacrifice, acceptance of difficulties, hardships, and dangers, and expressed in a sharp, combative and deeply humane manner.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Man, the anti-corruption and anti-waste journalism works of the journalists participating in this year's journalism awards are a mirror to warn those who are standing outside or going against the spirit of the 12th Party Central Committee Resolution 4 that our Party has determined.
“The Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Journalists Association at all levels will not let journalists fighting corruption, negativity, and waste fall into a state of helplessness when using their pens and courage to participate in this arduous struggle. They will not let journalists fighting negativity feel lonely among their colleagues, not let them succumb to material temptations, not let them retreat before intimidation and mental threats because behind them there is the Party, the system of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Journalists Association at all levels,” Mr. Tran Thanh Man emphasized.
Also at the award ceremony, the contest organizers launched the second "Press Award for the fight against corruption and waste" which will be implemented in 2018 and 2019./.
