General Secretary To Lam chairs the 28th meeting of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity.
The Central Steering Committee on anti-corruption, waste and negativity held its 28th meeting this morning under the chairmanship of General Secretary To Lam - Head of the Steering Committee.
According to information from the meeting, since the beginning of the year, the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity has continued to be vigorously implemented, with many new changes, increasingly better meeting the requirements of Party building, the political system and the goal of promoting socio-economic development.
The work of building and perfecting institutions has been highly focused and determined with many new policies, regulations and viewpoints issued; both serving the country's key and urgent political tasks and overcoming loopholes and inadequacies in mechanisms, policies and laws to prevent corruption, waste and negativity.

The Government, ministries, branches and localities have focused on directing the review and removal of difficulties and obstacles; handling projects and works that are behind schedule, have long backlogs, are ineffective, and have a risk of loss and waste.
Under the direction of the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, the Government has focused on directing the removal of difficulties and obstacles for the project to solve flooding caused by tides in Ho Chi Minh City; renewable energy projects that have been built but have not been connected and operated; 2 investment projects to build facilities for Bach Mai Hospital and Viet-Germany Friendship Hospital and 8 projects at risk of great loss and waste.
The work of detecting and handling corruption, waste and negativity continues to be promoted; the authorities have focused on inspecting, investigating and thoroughly handling serious and complicated corruption, waste and negativity cases that have attracted public attention.
Disciplinary action against a series of party organizations and thousands of party members
Since the beginning of the year, Party committees and Inspection Committees at all levels have disciplined 230 Party organizations and 7,235 Party members; the Politburo, Secretariat and Central Inspection Committee have disciplined 11 officials under the Central Committee's management.

The Inspection and Auditing sector has conducted many inspections and audits in areas and areas prone to corruption and negativity that are of public concern. Through this, it has recommended the recovery and financial handling of VND9,533 billion and 617 hectares of land; recommended administrative handling of 381 groups and 1,083 individuals; and transferred 28 cases with signs of crime to the investigation agency for investigation and handling according to regulations.
In less than 3 months, the Government Inspectorate has completed its inspection and recommended handling of many violations at the two investment projects to build facilities 2 of Bach Mai Hospital and Vietnam - Germany Friendship Hospital.
The prosecution agencies nationwide have proactively identified, discovered, investigated, and handled many serious and complicated cases occurring in various fields that have had a major impact on the healthy development of the economy and the lives and health of the people, and the rights of workers; there is collusion and connection between enterprises, even defendants, and corrupt officials in state agencies, causing public outrage. At the same time, the authorities have also prosecuted and investigated a number of cases that caused great loss and waste of state assets, which have had a strong warning, deterrent, and preventive effect, in accordance with the spirit of "handling one case, warning the whole region, the whole field".
Recovering more than 100 trillion VND of corrupt assets
In the first 6 months of the year, the prosecution agencies initiated 1,776 new cases with 4,038 defendants for corruption, economic crimes, and crimes of position. Particularly, the cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee concluded the investigation of 7 cases with 127 defendants; issued indictments to prosecute 5 cases with 87 defendants; tried 7 cases with 94 defendants at first instance; and tried 9 cases with 221 defendants at appeal.
The authorities have also expanded the investigation, initiated 2 new cases; prosecuted 40 more defendants from 8 cases; concluded the investigation of the case at Thuan An Group; issued an indictment and brought to trial the case at Phuc Son Group; and tried a number of key cases at trial and appeal according to the plan of the Steering Committee.
The work of recovering corrupt assets continues to receive attention and direction, achieving many results. In the cases and incidents that the Steering Committee monitors and directs, during the investigation phase, assets worth over 313 billion VND and many other valuable assets have been temporarily detained, seized, frozen, and seized.
In particular, during the trial phase, many defendants and their families voluntarily returned thousands of billions of VND to remedy all the consequences of the case. During the civil enforcement phase, nearly 7,000 billion VND was recovered, bringing the total amount recovered since the establishment of the Steering Committee to 103,854 billion VND (51.57%).
The work of preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity at the local and grassroots levels continues to have many positive changes. The provincial Steering Committees for preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity have directed the implementation of quite comprehensive tasks, both preventing and detecting, and handling corruption, waste and negativity.
In the first 6 months of the year, the provincial Steering Committees have brought 53 cases of corruption, waste, and negativity under monitoring and direction; local authorities have disciplined 43 leaders for corruption and negativity, of which 21 cases were criminally prosecuted; 416 new cases with 1,207 defendants were prosecuted for corruption and negativity; many localities have disciplined and prosecuted defendants who are cadres under the management of the provincial and municipal Party Committees.
