Viettel Nghe An: Deploying product applications for the visually impaired

(Baonghean) - Continuing the goal of developing business associated with social responsibility, Viettel Telecommunications Corporation has just launched a product line for the visually impaired called Viettel Speak Sim. This is also the first time in Vietnam that the community of people with limited vision has been provided with a mobile telecommunications product line just for them. The Speak Sim product line, which is both multi-utility with outstanding features and deeply humane, has been introduced to the market since July 2015 at Viettel stores nationwide.

Blind people are often limited in their use of technological devices, so they always have difficulty communicating, maintaining social relationships, as well as finding and accessing information sources...

To solve the difficulties that the visually impaired face, Viettel has launched a product/service called Speak Sim that meets the requirements of "simplification, personalization and optimization". The product includes 1 prepaid Speak SIM, 1 SmartPhone pre-installed with Vietnamese reading software - Viettel Speak on Android platform. This Viettel Speak software will support reading the names of features and information displayed on the touch screen. The highlight of Viettel Speak software is that it has voices from 3 regions: North, Central, South, making it easier for users to operate on their SmartPhone. This software is copyrighted by Viettel exclusively for its customers.

The Speak prepaid SIM card has many incentives. Accordingly, the customer's call fee is only 550 VND/minute (calling within the network), customers are given 2,000 free minutes/month within the network to 2 Viettel subscribers, and unlimited Internet access is only 25,000 VND/month. In particular, customers are also exempted from 3G Data access fees when using the Radio Short News application (version specifically for the visually impaired) to read newspapers, update daily information... At the same time, Viettel also waives the card top-up fee for other Viettel subscribers when they want to top-up for Speak Sim subscribers.

Currently, in Nghe An, there are over 2,600 visually impaired people in districts, cities and towns, many of whom are students. The biggest difficulty for visually impaired people when accessing Smartphones is the lack of a Vietnamese reader to support their use. Therefore, the launch of the Speak Sim product line, with its superior, user-friendly features, is expected to not only help the visually impaired community have a powerful support tool for their daily lives; help them stay in touch, access more social information, entertainment services but also help visually impaired students easily exploit and search for information to serve their studies. Speak Sim will be like a bridge to help visually impaired people step out and integrate into the world.

The Speak Sim product line has been available on the market since July 2015 at Viettel stores nationwide. Viettel Nghe An has also proactively contacted social protection centers, vocational training centers for the disabled, and worked with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of the districts to deploy the Speak Sim product, bringing utilities to the community of the visually impaired.

Speak Sim is one of the product lines that represents personalization - Viettel's core business philosophy.
