Vinamilk boosts purchase of raw fresh milk

(Baonghean) - In 2014, Vinamilk purchased more than 183 million kg of milk, an increase of 17.12% compared to 2013. In the Northern region alone, Vinamilk purchased nearly 22 million kg of milk (14.7 million kg from farmers), an increase of 50.1% in output and 58.6% in value.

In 2014, Vinamilk continued to import high-quality breeding cows from Australia and the US by air to meet the breeding needs of new farms.

Statistics for the first 19 days of 2015 (from January 1 to January 19, 2015), Vinamilk purchased nearly 12 million kg of milk, an increase of nearly 20% compared to the same period in 2014. In Ho Chi Minh City and its vicinity alone, in the first 19 days of 2015, Vinamilk purchased more than 7.5 million kg of milk, an increase of 11% compared to the same period. Also during this period, Vinamilk purchased milk in Binh Dinh and Lam Dong areas, increasing by 71% compared to the same period. Currently, Vinamilk is the enterprise purchasing and consuming 60% of raw fresh milk from farmers nationwide.

Since 1990, when Vietnam began to develop the dairy farming industry, Vinamilk Joint Stock Company has been closely associated with farmers and implemented the purchase of raw fresh milk. Vinamilk's goal is to increasingly improve quality and increase milk productivity so that farmers can join Vinamilk in developing a sustainable, food-safe and professional dairy farming industry, providing consumers with dairy products that are strictly controlled in terms of food hygiene and safety.

The total herd of cows providing milk for Vinamilk is currently more than 80,000, providing nearly 600 tons of raw fresh milk every day.

Vinamilk has a policy to support milk purchasing for dairy farmers with a unified purchase price with the farms of Vinamilk's subsidiaries, so that farmers can access modern livestock farming policies and techniques, moving towards development on par with high-tech, modern industrial farms in the future.

Vinamilk's purchase price of raw fresh milk in 2015 is basically the same as in 2014. Vinamilk has trained and informed farmers and shown the regulations in the 2015 Purchase Contract. The number of farmers delivering high-quality milk with a purchase price of 14,000 VND/kg and above 14,000 VND/kg accounts for over 50% of the purchased output in the first 19 days of January 2015. This shows that Vinamilk does not reduce the purchased output and does not reduce the purchase price if the milk quality meets all required criteria.

Currently, the total herd of cows supplying milk to Vinamilk, including the company's farms and farmers who have signed contracts to sell milk to Vinamilk, is more than 80,000 cows, providing nearly 600 tons of raw fresh milk every day. With the plan to develop new farms, Vinamilk's total herd of cows from farms and households will increase to about 100,000 in 2017 and about 120,000 - 140,000 in 2020, with the expected milk output by 2020 to more than double, to 1,000 - 1,200 tons/day, ensuring an abundant supply of pure milk to serve domestic and export needs.

In 2014, Vinamilk had 5 farms, including Nghe An farm, Tuyen Quang farm, Thanh Hoa farm, Binh Dinh farm and Lam Dong farm, which were awarded the certificate of meeting the international standard of Global Good Agricultural Practices (Global GAP) by the Global GAP ConTrolUnion Certification Organization. These are the first farms in Southeast Asia to be certified by Global GAP and are among the farms meeting the international standard of GlobalG.AP in Asia. Vinamilk's system of 5 farms has also achieved the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system issued by the Bureau Veritas Certification Organization (France).
