Vinamilk increases investment in developing raw milk in Lam Dong

Identifying Lam Dong as a province with abundant land fund and natural conditions very favorable for the development of dairy farming, Vinamilk has proposed an investment strategy to expand the milk material area in this highland province and plans to build 3 large-scale concentrated farms, in the future will build a milk processing factory here...

On June 13, 2015, at Mega Vietnam Milk Factory (Binh Duong Industrial Park), Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee and Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) agreed to sign a framework agreement on cooperation in developing dairy farming in Lam Dong province for the period 2015-2020. The goal of the cooperation is to promote the advantages of climate, soil conditions and potential for developing dairy herds to build Lam Dong into one of the milk material areas with large output, high quality, ensuring stability, sustainability, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality and the whole country, increasing income for farmers.

This strategic cooperation will facilitate attracting investment resources from Vinamilk to develop a concentrated dairy farming system, purchase raw fresh milk and build a milk processing plant in Lam Dong, ensuring output for raw fresh milk produced by Lam Dong farmers and encouraging farming households to apply scientific advances, high technology in dairy farming, disease management to improve productivity and quality of milk supplied to purchasing stations and processing plants.

Specifically, through this cooperation program, Lam Dong province will create conditions for Vinamilk to build 2 to 3 concentrated dairy farms with modern technology, with a total herd of about 10,000 cows in Lam Dong province. The concentrated dairy farm is the core, providing technical consulting services on livestock farming, veterinary, purebred dairy cow semen, dairy cow feed... for dairy farmers in the area. Build a high-quality core dairy cow breeding center to provide purebred, high-yielding Hosltein Friesian dairy cows for dairy farmers in Lam Dong province.

In addition, Vinamilk organizes a purchasing system, builds a transit center, and purchases raw fresh milk: Vinamilk will rent land and invest in building purchasing and transit centers with modern equipment systems to ensure the purchase of at least 90% of raw fresh milk produced by Lam Dong farmers in the province's dairy farming planning area under fresh milk consumption contracts. The center is not only a place to purchase raw fresh milk but also a place to provide dairy farmers with technical services, concentrated feed, mixed feed, and micronutrient feed that ensures the quality as used in Vinamilk's dairy farms, veterinary supplies, high-quality dairy cow semen sources, and green forage seeds and cultivation techniques for plants and grasses for dairy cows so that dairy farmers can build pastures, ensure green forage sources, and proactively store silage for their herds.

Through these raw milk purchasing centers, training courses and knowledge improvement on animal husbandry and veterinary medicine for dairy cows for farmers in Lam Dong province will be regularly organized to bring technical advances and high technology to local dairy farmers. Vinamilk will also research and plan to cooperate with insurance companies to implement dairy cow insurance for farmers for sustainable development.

When Vinamilk's purchasing output in Lam Dong province reaches over 200 tons of fresh milk/day, Vinamilk will consider investing in building a milk processing factory in Lam Dong province with equivalent capacity.

Mr. Trinh Quoc Dung, CEO of Vinamilk, led a delegation of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee to visit Vinamilk's liquid milk factory. At the factory, all production processes are 100% automated from the input stage to the finished product warehouse.

Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee will establish and approve the Project on developing dairy farming in Lam Dong province for the period 2015 - 2020 as a basis for implementing and directing localities to develop dairy herds according to the plan. In which, it clearly identifies areas suitable for developing dairy farming, grass growing areas (forage plants) to ensure the supply of green roughage for dairy herds. In attracting businesses to invest in developing dairy cows in the area, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee prioritizes creating conditions for businesses to ensure raw material areas (own areas and areas of cooperation with farmers through contracts) to provide green roughage for the herd, have experience, market, technology and ensure output for farmers.

In particular, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee will have preferential policies for enterprises with adequate technical facilities, quality of breeds, closed processes of pasture, livestock, milk processing and consumption markets; have plans for long-term contracts to develop pastures with farmers; at the same time, proactively allocate pasture areas of enterprises to ensure sustainable development. In addition, to ensure veterinary work and disease prevention, Lam Dong province will strictly control the mandatory vaccination against infectious diseases according to regulations for buffalo and cow herds in the people, especially in the belt area of ​​Vinamilk Company's concentrated dairy farms to create a disease-safe buffer zone for the farm; have policies to support mandatory vaccination against diseases according to regulations for dairy cows in the people to protect the dairy cow herd of the whole province....

With the cooperation between Vinamilk and Lam Dong province, by 2020, it is expected that Lam Dong province's dairy herd will reach a scale of about 40,000 - 50,000 dairy cows, with fresh milk output of about 180,000 - 200,000 tons/year.
