Honoring 5 outstanding Vietnamese female scientists in 2016
On November 29, five outstanding Vietnamese female scientists in 2016 were honored with the L'Oréal - UNESCO Science Award for the Development of Women in Science.

Among them, two female scientists were awarded the 2016 L'Oréal National Science Prize For Women in Science nominated by the Independent Science Council:
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lang, Head of Biotechnology Department, An Giang University and Cuu Long University; Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Cuu Long Delta Rice Research Institute. Prof. Lang was honored for her contributions over 25 years to research, breeding and developing rice varieties for Vietnam and successfully applying research results to practical life and commerce.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Mua, Department of Science and Technology Research and Inspection of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Vehicles (Department of Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police - Ministry of Public Security).
Dr. Mua devoted his whole heart to researching heat-resistant materials, contributing to improving the effectiveness of fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue work. In particular, the research results were applied in the manufacture of heat-resistant fabric samples for soldiers participating in fire prevention and fighting.

In addition, 3 young researchers were awarded the Talented Young Scientist Scholarship, including: Associate Professor, Dr. Do Thi Ha, Deputy Head of the Department of Plant Chemistry, Institute of Medicinal Materials; Dr. Do Thi Phuc, lecturer at the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi); Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep, lecturer at the International University (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City).
These young doctors were honored for their contributions to public health research by finding new insights and directions from domestic available materials to support cancer treatment; research on selecting and creating plant varieties that are resistant to and respond to climate change and saltwater intrusion, as well as research on improving material properties in restorative dentistry.
The L'Oreal Foundation Scholarship Program is open to female scientists under the age of 45, with a doctorate degree and a research project in two areas: life sciences and materials science. The scholarship awarded is 150,000,000 VND/candidate.
