Vitamin B3 also works like Viagra
A familiar daily dose of vitamin B3 (active ingredient Niacin) has the effect of improving erectile function in men.
A study showed that 80 men with moderate and severe erectile dysfunction, after taking Niacin, their condition improved greatly.
Another 80 men with milder disease were treated with a placebo, with no change in symptoms. Their lipid and cholesterol levels were the same.
The author of the study recently published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, Dr. Chi-Fai, of the University of Hong Kong commented: "A surprising discovery. Niacin is a very familiar, safe and well-used drug, now with a new use: it can be used to treat erectile dysfunction."
According to Chi-Fai, in heart patients, Niacin has the effect of bringing lipid and cholesterol levels back to normal. So it is not surprising that it cures impotence due to heart problems and erectile dysfunction, since both conditions have the same cause.
Dr. Howard Hermann, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (USA), who has been researching this issue since 2006, confirmed the above and further explained: "It is not entirely true that the two diseases have the same cause, but rather, both diseases have similar manifestations."
According to Dr. Hermann, heart disease, atherosclerosis... are caused by high cholesterol levels, which impede blood flow to the penis, resulting in erectile dysfunction. Therefore, impotence is also a consequence of cholesterol.
A new study on Niacin also shows that men who take Niacin not only achieve good results in improving erectile function but also reduce lipid (fat) levels in the blood.
To treat erectile dysfunction, you need to take medication a few hours before sex. Most patients report that with these medications, erectile function improves only for a short time. Dr. Chi-Fai asserts: "Using niacin is much better. You only need to take it once a day and you can have sex any time you want."
In a new trial, men were given niacin in a slow-dissolving tablet form that was released into the bloodstream over the course of the day. Men were initially given a single daily dose of 500 mg of niacin, to ensure no side effects, and then increased to 1,000 mg and then 1,500 mg.
Dr. Hermann said there are still some issues that temporarily prevent them from using the substance to treat erectile dysfunction in men. The results were only shown in men with both high cholesterol and impotence, but the scientists said they want to learn more about how niacin affects patients with erectile dysfunction alone.
