CBoston scientists (USA) have concluded that it is possible to prevent cataracts in women with vitamins after conducting a study of 3,492 women aged 53-73. For women under 60, taking at least 362mgvitamin C/day reduced the risk of cataracts by 57% compared to those who used less than 140mg/day. In addition, the risk of developing the disease was also reduced by 60% in women who usedvitamin Csupplemented regularly for at least 10 years, compared with those who did not take this vitamin.
This finding strengthens the notion that antioxidants (including vitamin C) may alter the development of certain specific forms of age-related cataracts.
