CBoston scientists (USA) have concluded that it is possible to prevent cataracts in women with vitamins after conducting a study of 3,492 women aged 53-73. For women under 60 years old, taking at least 362mgvitamin C/day reduced the risk of cataracts by 57% compared to those who consumed less than 140mg/day. In addition, the risk of developing the disease was also reduced by 60% in women who consumedvitamin Csupplemented regularly for at least 10 years, compared with those who did not take this vitamin.
This finding supports the notion that antioxidants (including vitamin C) may alter the development of certain forms of age-related cataracts.
