Couple who spread Ebola rumors in Vietnam fined 20 million VND
On August 22, the Criminal Police Department of Hanoi City Police announced that it had administratively fined a couple who spread news that the Ebola epidemic had appeared in Vietnam.
Accordingly, Vuong Ba Huy and Do Thuy Linh must pay a fine of 20 million VND for administrative violations in the fields of post, telecommunications, information technology and radio frequencies according to Decree 174 of the Government.

A day later, Linh's husband Vuong Ba Huy also received this information via Facebook and posted on his personal page: "Announcement: Ebola has arrived in Vietnam. I learned about this through a family doctor and called home to inform my children. This is very dangerous. Everyone should try to disinfect thoroughly by mixing 70-degree alcohol into a BETADINE bottle and spraying it on your hands and clothes. I hope this epidemic will pass soon. I'm so scared. I'm announcing this news to everyone to try to be self-aware so that the epidemic doesn't spread widely."
Information about Huy and his wife was commented, discussed, and spread by social network users.
On August 13, the Internal Political Security Department (PA83), the Criminal Police Department and other professional units of the Hanoi City Police identified and summoned Huy and his wife to the investigation agency for clarification.
At the investigation agency, Huy and his wife confessed that they had carried out the above acts with the purpose of warning and instructing on disease prevention, and had no other purpose. The reason Linh chose Bach Mai Hospital as the place where Ebola patients are being treated is because this is a large hospital with many departments for infectious disease prevention.
Police also identified Huy and his wife as the first two people to spread the rumor that Vietnam had an Ebola epidemic on social media.
