Wife of former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand dies
Rebecca Ellison, wife of former England and Manchester United midfielder Rio Ferdinand, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Rebecca Ellison died on the evening of May 1st from breast cancer. During the last months of her life, she was treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital - a prestigious cancer center in London.
After his wife's death, Rio also sent his gratitude to the team of doctors and medical staff at Marsden Hospital, as well as the support from friends and colleagues in Ellison's final days.
"I, my parents Janice and Julian, along with Rebecca's parents Lesley and Stephen, would like to thank my family, friends and colleagues who rallied around me during my wife's final desperate days," Ferdinand wrote.
"I would also like to express my gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the medical staff, led by Professors Johnstone and Clarke at the Royal Marsden. My family and I will forever remember your efforts in prolonging Rebecca's life."
Meanwhile, immediately after receiving the sad news, QPR's board of directors also sent condolences: "Queen Park Rangers will be thinking of Rio and his family at this difficult time."
Manchester United, the team that Rio played for 6 years, also sent condolences to Rio's family: "Manchester United will turn all their thoughts to Rio Ferdinand after his wife passed away."/.
