Wild elephants destroy the sugarcane fields of Ban Veu people.
(Baonghean.vn) - At 2:00 a.m. this morning (March 6, 2014) in Cao Veu 3 hamlet (Phuc Son commune, Anh Son district, Nghe An province), people discovered 6 wild elephants including 3 large elephants, 2 medium elephants and a small elephant (see photo), coming down from the mountain to the sugarcane field to eat and destroy the sugarcane.
Upon being informed, the villagers immediately went to the sugarcane fields and lit many fires to chase away the elephants, preventing them from entering the village to destroy houses and kill people like several times in previous years.

Mr. Luong Van Kim - Deputy Village Head said: This morning, after receiving the news, several functional agencies of Anh Son district went directly to examine and make documents at the scene, directing the protection of the elephant herd without any direction to handle and overcome the consequences of the 4 hectares of sugarcane that the elephants had walked through, eaten and destroyed in many places.
The earnest wish of the local people is that the authorities quickly implement a plan to chase away the elephants and deal with the damage to households whose sugarcane fields have been damaged by wild elephants.
