Champions League 2012 qualifying round: Dynamo Kiev lost at home

The once mighty Soviet football club Dynamo Kiev unexpectedly lost 0-2 at home at Valery Lobanovski Stadium to Rubin Kazan in the 3rd qualifying round of the 2012 Champions League early this morning, July 27.

Two goals were scored in each half. Alan Kasaev opened the scoring for Rubin in the 6th minute and Bebras Natcho sealed the score 2-0 in the 68th minute. The return match between the two teams will take place on August 2, 2011.

Ukrainian star Andriy Shevchenko sat on the bench throughout the match, not being used by coach Yuri Semin in this match. With a score of 0-2, Dynamo Kiev is at risk of being eliminated from the 2012 Champions League.

The two teams met in the 2010 Champions League group stage. Dynamo Kiev won 3-1 in the first leg and drew in the second leg against Rubin Kazan.

Another strong club also suffered a defeat at home, Scotland's Glasgow Rangers against Sweden's Malmo with a score of 0-1. Malmo's only goal was scored by Daniel Larsson in the 18th minute.

Results of some other matches: Partizan Belgrade lost 1-2 to Racing Genk, Twente Enschede of the Netherlands defeated Romanian club Vaslui 2-0, Ekranas of Lithuania drew 0-0 with BATE Borisov of Belarus, FC Zestafoni also drew 1-1 with Sturm Graz of Austria...

The winners of this third qualifying round will advance to the play-off round, which will feature some big teams such as Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Lyon…
