Pu Mat National Park staff hand over a tiger to the Soc Son Wildlife Rescue and Forest Protection Technical Center (Hanoi).
As reported by Baonghean.vn, at karound 10am 1/1/2013After a period of monitoring, the joint force of Yen Thanh district suddenly inspected and discovered a tiger weighing about 170kg.was kept in the family of Mr. Le Van Dat (born 1989,reside inPhu Vinh hamlet, Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district,Nghe An). The homeowner Le Van Dat confessed that the tiger was originally brought from Laos to Vietnam through illegal trade. When he bought the cub, it weighed 1.6 kg, at a price of 960,000 VND/kg. While Dat's family planned to cook the tiger, for many reasons they did not do so, they were caught red-handed by the Yen Thanh district police.
According to staff at Pu Mat National Park, after nearly 5 months of care, the tiger is currently in good health, but has lost its natural instincts due to being kept in captivity by people since it was young, so it cannot be released into the wild.
In order to preserve and develop the genetic resources of this rare wild animal, a single individual will not be effective. Moreover, the Pu Mat National Park Rescue Center is a temporary rescue center for wild animals before releasing them back into the forest or transferring them to other agencies and units, so it is not possible to keep tigers in captivity for a long time at the Center.
Therefore, implementing Decision No. 1645/QD-UBND dated May 7, 2013 of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee on transferring tigers at Pu Mat National Park to the Soc Son Wildlife Rescue and Forest Protection Technical Center (under the Hanoi Forest Protection Department), Pu Mat National Park Wildlife Rescue Center proceeded to hand over tigers to the Soc Son Wildlife Rescue and Forest Protection Technical Center to continue caring for and pairing with existing tigers at the Center to preserve and develop this rare tiger species./.
