On average, each winter crop, Thanh Chuong district plants 1,700 - 2,000 hectares of corn. There are two types of land for winter corn cultivation in Thanh Chuong: alluvial land along the Lam River and two-crop rice land. Of which, alluvial land along the Lam River has nearly 2,000 hectares, divided into two types: One type is high, less prone to flooding when there is heavy rain in the rainy season in September and October. This type of land has about 900 - 1,000 hectares. The second type of alluvial land is low, often flooded due to the rising water of the Lam River when there is heavy rain. Therefore, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district only advocates focusing on sowing winter corn on two-crop rice land and high alluvial land along the Lam River with a planned target of planting 3,200 hectares of corn. In addition, the district also strives to plant an additional 1,000 hectares of various vegetables and beans, 500 hectares of sweet potatoes and 700 hectares of raw cassava.

After more than 1 month of implementing winter crop production, up to now, the whole district has planted 1,700 hectares of corn, 700 hectares of various vegetables and beans, 300 hectares of sweet potatoes, more than 200 hectares of raw cassava and raised over 700 hectares of fish for the third crop. There have been many typical movements such as in the communes of Thanh Lien, Thanh Tien, Thanh Van, Thanh Linh... In Thanh Lien commune, the Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee met to implement winter crop production with the spirit: everyone does winter crop, every household does winter crop. All focus on winter crop production to achieve great success. Up to now, the whole commune has finished planting 150 hectares of corn both on high alluvial land and on double-crop rice land and more than 20 hectares of various vegetables. Many areas of early-sown corn now have 4-5 leaves.

Many farming households took advantage of favorable weather conditions to mobilize the maximum amount of labor available in their families to produce the winter crop. For example, Mr. Trinh Xuan Hoan's family finished harvesting the summer-autumn rice, plowed the land, fertilized and planted 6 sao of corn on the double-crop rice land. Although Mr. Phan Ba ​​Ngoc's family had to finish harvesting the summer-autumn rice later than the people in Lien Chau hamlet, with the motto of plowing the land to plant corn as soon as the summer-autumn rice was harvested, his family has so far finished planting 5 sao of corn. Mr. Khuong Van Truc - Secretary of the Lien Chau hamlet Party cell said: "From the beginning of the season, my family has strived to plant more than 4 sao of corn so that from our work, we can direct the people to follow the policies set forth by the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune".

In Thanh Linh commune, the winter crop production movement is also very active. The whole commune has finished planting 90 hectares of corn on both the 2-rice land and the high alluvial land along the Lam River. Coming to Thuy village, Thanh Linh commune, we met Mr. Nguyen Tien Phuong, who has the largest area of ​​corn planted in the commune (6 sao). He said: "No matter how much land my family has, I plant corn, the products are used as food for 10 pigs, dozens of chickens, ducks...". The best thing about winter crop production in Thanh Linh is the practice of growing vegetables intercropped with corn. Mr. Nguyen Van Thong - Vice Chairman of Thanh Linh Commune People's Committee said: Growing vegetables intercropped with corn in Thanh Linh brings farmers an average of 300,000 - 500,000 VND/sao of income from vegetables in just over or under 30 days. If the planting is done early, the price will be higher. Therefore, the winter corn crop here is usually planted very early by the people.

To achieve the above results, right from the beginning of the winter crop, with the view that production must be safe and bring about great economic efficiency, the People's Committee of Thanh Chuong district has directed all communes to review and regulate safe winter crop land. When there is heavy rain, timely drainage is required to avoid the loss of fertilizer, seeds and labor. Among the crops, the first priority is corn to have products for livestock farming and after corn, vegetables and beans of all kinds to serve social needs. In 2 months (September and October), the district mobilized most of the staff of agencies and organizations to go to the grassroots and local levels to direct the timely winter crop production movement. Service units such as: Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company, District Plant Seed Station all sent staff to each production facility to grasp the demand for seeds and fertilizers of all kinds to promptly transport and supply to the hands of producers.
