Cheating on exam scores in Son La: Additional Deputy Head of Examination Department prosecuted

On August 22, Son La Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute Nguyen Thanh Nhan, (52 years old), residing in Group 4, To Hieu Ward, Son La City, Deputy Head of the Examination and Education Quality Management Department, Son La Provincial Department of Education, for the crime of abusing his position and power while performing official duties, and issued an order prohibiting him from leaving his place of residence and a search warrant for his residence and workplace.

Previously, on July 31, 2018, Son La Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute and arrest three suspects for temporary detention: Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, (51 years old), specialist of the Examination and Quality Management Department, Son La Provincial Department of Education and Training, secretary of the Steering Committee, member of the multiple-choice test scoring team; Dang Huu Thuy, (54 years old), Vice Principal of To Hieu High School, member of the multiple-choice test scoring team; Lo Van Huynh, (57 years old), Head of the Examination and Quality Management Department, Son La Provincial Department of Education and Training, member of the Steering Committee, member of the Examination Council, Head of the Secretariat.

Prosecution and ban from leaving the place of residence for 2 subjects including: Tran Xuan Yen, (47 years old), Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La, Member of the Examination Steering Committee, Vice Chairman of the Examination Council, Deputy Head of the Examination Board, Head of the Multiple Choice Examination Board; Cam Thi Bun Son, (49 years old), Deputy Head of the Political and Ideological Department, Member of the Multiple Choice Examination Board, both for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".

Expanding the investigation of the case, up to now, the Son La Provincial Police Investigation Agency has had enough grounds to determine that in addition to directly correcting test papers and raising scores of multiple-choice subjects for candidates, the defendants Nguyen Thi Hong Nga and Lo Van Huynh also colluded with Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Deputy Head of the exam-making team and in charge of the first round of exam-making team, to correct and raise scores of multiple-choice tests, and provide exam-making keys to the essay-marking department to raise scores of literature subjects for a number of candidates at the 2018 National High School Exam in Son La province.
