The male patient's ultrasound interpretation described him as "having a uterus." |
This document stated that, immediately after Nghe An Newspaper published the article, the Board of Directors of Thai An General Hospital held an urgent meeting with relevant individuals.
It was determined that this patient came to the clinic at 8:00 a.m. on September 10 with the reason of epigastric pain. The doctor examined him clinically and performed paraclinical tests; abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum with the following conclusions:
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: Bile reflux antrum gastritis.
Abdominal ultrasound: No abnormalities found in the abdomen.
With definitive diagnosis: Gastritis...
"The examination and prescription of medication for the patient were in compliance with professional regulations. However, there was an unfortunate error in the abdominal ultrasound as reported in the newspaper," the hospital's document stated.

According to Mr. Tran Phan Thieu - Director of Thai An General Hospital, the patient is male, so such an interpretation is wrong. "The reason is that the patient had a normal abdominal ultrasound result after the ultrasound examination by the doctor. However, the computer technician who helped the doctor type the wrong sample in the computer software from the male patient's sample to the female patient's, leading to the above error. This is a serious professional error," explained the leader of Thai An General Hospital.
The hospital also said that because the doctor did not carefully check the ultrasound interpretation but only paid attention to the ultrasound's conclusion, it led to errors, causing confusion for the patient and the patient's family.
Also in this explanation document, the Director of Thai An General Hospital said that the unit has appropriate disciplinary measures for the relevant collectives and individuals.
