One of the first two victims brought to the mainland yesterday has been identified as Kevin Alexander Soetjipto, an Indonesian student at Monash University in Australia. Kevin was identified by the wallet he was carrying. He and his family members were on a trip when the accident happened.

Hospitals in Surabaya are still ready to receive and identify the victims. Flight QZ8501 crashed into the sea while en route from Indonesia to Singapore. There were 155 passengers and 7 crew members on board.

So far there has been no sign of any survivors from the disaster.

The head of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency, Bambang Soelistyo, said that at this point, the hope of finding survivors was very slim and the plane's black box had not yet been found.

Earlier, Indonesian President Joko Widodo ordered an urgent search and identification campaign to quickly bring the victims home. Relatives and families of the passengers will be taken to Surabaya Hospital for direct identification or DNA testing.

Today, January 1, the rescue team continues to search for victims. Taking advantage of the relatively good weather, divers are trying to reach the debris believed to be from QZ8501. In addition, there is a large object at a depth of 25 - 30m, believed to be the fuselage of QZ8501. However, large waves prevent navy divers from approaching.

There are currently about 30 ships and 21 aircraft from Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the US participating in the search.
