April 2, 2016 07:40

After the incident of a barge collapsing Ghenh Bridge, Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) informed that the railway industry has adjusted the train schedule, the number of freight and passenger trains has decreased by 3-4 pairs/day.

However, the Railway Corporation must establish 57 new pairs of trains to transport passengers on the Saigon-Song Than section and combine with car transport on the Song Than-Bien Hoa section.

Span 3 of Ghenh Bridge was successfully salvaged from a depth of 13m under the riverbed.

VNR's report shows that currently, the Corporation still maintains the organization of 8 pairs of trains/day, including the Hanoi-Saigon route with 3 pairs of trains TN1/2, SE3/4, SE5/6; the Saigon-Quy Nhon route with 1 pair of trains SE25/26; the Saigon-Vinh route with 1 pair of trains SE21/22; the Saigon-Nha Trang route with 1 pair of trains SNT5/2. All of these pairs of trains must transport the Song Than-Bien Hoa section by car. The Hanoi-Nha Trang route alone has 2 pairs of trains SE1/2, SE7/8.

Thus, the number of train pairs that had to be reduced due to the collapse of Ghenh bridge was 03 train pairs/day. However, VNR had to set up 57 new train pairs to transport passengers on the Saigon-Song Than section and combine with car transport on the Song Than-Bien Hoa section.

Regarding freight transport, immediately after the Ghenh bridge incident, VNR organized to change the loading and unloading locations for all specialized trains and organized to disband the trains and load and unload at Trang Bom and Ho Nai stations. Currently, all goods for 14 trains have been released and organized to load and unload 4 pairs of specialized trains/day. Thus, the number of pairs of freight trains reduced due to the bridge collapse is 04 pairs/day.

To increase transportation and loading and unloading capacity, the railway industry is also urgently implementing the renovation and upgrading of stations, freight yards, and loading and unloading routes at Bien Hoa station (expected to be completed before April 22), Ho Nai and Trang Bom (expected to be completed before April 12) to minimize the impact on train passengers and cargo owners; implementing measures to ensure the safety of the railway infrastructure system and ensure train safety.

In order to maintain the stability of freight and passenger transportation, and minimize the impact on train passengers and shippers, in the coming time, the Railway Corporation will move wagons, machinery and equipment, rearrange the entire technical inspection team, and prepare wagons from Saigon to Bien Hoa; rebuild the train formation plan, arrange locomotives, transfer wagons, supply fuel, adjust ticket sales plans, and develop customer support solutions... to be able to deploy additional train pairs.

On April 1, Ghenh bridge wasofficially startedand strive to ensure construction progress is completed before July 15.

The new Ghenh Bridge is built with 3 spans with span lengths of 75+75+75m. The bridge girder is made of steel arches. The new Ghenh Bridge will have the longitudinal elevation of the top of the rail raised by about 2.2m compared to the old Ghenh Bridge; meeting level 3 navigation clearance. The upstream corridor will be widened by 2.4m to allow motorbikes and bicycles to travel in both directions, 1.2m each way.

To mobilize all resources and promptly overcome the incident caused by the collapse of Ghenh Bridge, the Railway Corporation has also launched a competition on the urgent restoration project of Ghenh Bridge by all measures to increase production and transport revenue; build and put into use Ghenh Bridge as soon as possible with the goal of "Safety - Quality - Progress - Efficiency"./.
