On the afternoon of July 29, Mr. Tran Van Thanh, Director of the Department of Health of Quang Tri province, said that regarding the incident that caused 3 newborns to die after being vaccinated against hepatitis B at Huong Hoa District General Hospital, on the morning of July 20, the Department of Health decided to temporarily suspend 1 doctor and 1 midwife involved to serve the investigation.
The Ministry of Health's expert delegation accessed documents on the process of importing, preserving and using vaccines at Huong Hoa District Hospital.
The Department of Health has decided to temporarily suspend Dr. Le Thi Kim Phuong and midwife Nguyen Thi Hai Thuan from working at Huong Hoa District General Hospital. After receiving the final investigation results from the police, the violating units and individuals will be considered and strictly handled.
This decision was made and took effect on the afternoon of July 27 after the Ministry of Health issued an urgent document requesting the province to direct the Department of Health to temporarily suspend the work of individuals who directly and indirectly made mistakes in implementing vaccination at Huong Hoa District General Hospital.
Previously, the working minutes on July 22 of the Ministry of Health and local expert delegation related to the case of vaccination causing the death of 3 newborns at Huong Hoa District General Hospital pointed out a number of errors in the vaccination process according to Decision No. 23/2008/QD-BYT dated July 7, 2008 issued by the Minister of Health on the use of vaccines and medical biological products in prevention and treatment as follows: improper storage of vaccines, storing vaccines with other biological products, not recording daily vaccine management; not storing shells and vials according to regulations, not implementing vaccination at the vaccination room./.
