The green border of soldiers' uniforms
(Baonghean) -Stationed in the western border area of Nghe An, Hanh Dich border post is assigned to manage and protect a border section of more than 20km in length belonging to two communes of Hanh Dich and Nam Giai, Que Phong district, bordering Laos. Over the years, officers and soldiers of the post have not only successfully completed the task of protecting border security and sovereignty but also left a deep mark on the lives of these two border communes.
Hanh Dich Commune is only about 12 km away from Kim Son Town, the center of Que Phong highland district. In recent years, with the investment of the State, the village's appearance has changed a lot. Wide asphalt roads run to the commune center, inter-village and inter-village roads are being concreted according to the new rural program. Social welfare works have also been invested, basically meeting the needs of local people.
2012 marked a great step forward in the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction. All of these changes in Hanh Dich were partly contributed by the soldiers wearing green uniforms at Hanh Dich Border Post. Following Lieutenant Nguyen Van Hoi, I was able to see the cage fish farming model in Chieng village. On the Nam Viec River, in 2012, Hanh Dich Border Post piloted cage fish farming. Ms. Lo Thi Huong's family was given 2 cages to take care of by the Post after being carefully instructed on all cage fish farming techniques. "At first, my family did not know how to raise cage fish, but thanks to the guidance of the soldiers, we now know it well. We feed the fish 3 times a day, the main food is vegetables, grass, and banana leaves, so it is easy to find. Now the fish are growing quite well, each fish weighs more than 1kg", Ms. Huong confided. Seeing the effectiveness of the soldier's fish cage farming model, people in the commune boldly followed suit and some households have had income from fish cage farming.
Officers and soldiers of Hanh Dich Border Guard Station guide people in raising fish in cages on Nam Viec River.
Another mark of the border guards of Hanh Dich Station with the locality in the economic development movement is helping the people to plant acacia. Captain Ngo Duc Hau - a party member temporarily living in Na Xai village, traveled downstream to buy seeds, then wholeheartedly instructed the local people on the technique of growing 50,000 acacia pots. Now, although Captain Hau has transferred to a new unit, the villagers still remember him as a benefactor of the village, because thousands of acacia trees are growing green on the dry land in the border area, opening a new way out of poverty for the locality.
The above is just one of many tasks that the border guards stationed in the border area of Hanh Dich, Nam Giai help the locality. Because, over the past many years, the unit has directly and proactively advised and coordinated with the local government to focus on consolidating and perfecting weak party cells, improving the quality of activities of mass organizations, and at the same time effectively promoting the role of 2 cadres assigned to work as Deputy Party Secretaries of Hanh Dich and Nam Giai communes and the model of transferring party members to live in weak villages and hamlets.
Major Nguyen Ba Kiem - who has nearly 20 years of experience working in the highlands of Western Nghe An, was promoted to Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanh Dich Commune since 2010. After 3 years in his new position, he and the Party members of the Party Committee of the Commune have built and consolidated the Party organization to develop strongly, contributing to building a clean and strong Party Committee of the Commune, a typical example of the district for 2 consecutive years. In addition, he and the leaders of the Commune have tried to take advantage of the State's investment capital, combined with the border guard station to research and build models to guide people in economic development. Thanks to that, the poverty rate of Hanh Dich has decreased by double digits year after year compared to the previous year. By the end of 2012, the commune's poverty rate was 58.5%, down more than 10% compared to 2011. "However, Hanh Dich is still a poor commune in one of the 62 poorest districts in the country, so there is still a lot of work to do to develop the local economy. In that process, we identify the role of party members to promote pioneering and exemplary leadership so that people can see and learn from them," said Mr. Kiem.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Cong Luc - Head of Hanh Dich Border Guard Station, said: "In addition to successfully completing the task of ensuring sovereignty, implementing special projects in the fight against crime and building a strong political base, helping people develop the economy is also considered a regular task of the officers and soldiers of the station. From models such as cage fish farming and acacia planting, we will work with the locality to expand the area to the villages in the coming time. Besides, we also proactively participate in building new rural areas in the locality such as helping the people of the villages to build concrete roads..." With those results, for 3 consecutive years, Hanh Dich Border Guard Station has continuously achieved the title of Determined to Win Unit.
