National Park 'rescues' rare stork donated by young man from Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Two individual storks (in the news "Nghe An young man buys two rare and strange birds to give to Pu Mat National Park") were received by Pu Mat National Park on May 23, 2020. However, one stork was in very weak condition and required special care.
According to a representative of Pu Mat National Park, on May 23, 2020, the Park sent people with the Forest Protection Department of Cua Lo Town to the family of Ms. Phan Thi Xuan (residing in Block 1, Thu Thuy Ward, Cua Lo Town) to complete the procedures to receive 2 rare and strange birds.

With the shape and characteristics of the two birds, Pu Mat National Park confirmed that these are swallow storks, also known as snail storks, belonging to the family Cetacea.The amur, listed in the Red Book, needs strict protection.

After arriving at Pu Mat National Park, the two storks were released into a semi-wild area with an artificial lake and stream. This area had previously been stocked with fish, small crabs and snails so that the two storks could find their own food.

After a period of observation, one individual stork was able to find food well and move around a lot in the semi-wild area. The other individual was in very weak condition; by the morning of May 24, 2020, it could no longer stand up on its own.

Therefore, veterinarians at Pu Mat National Park had to transfer this stork to the care room in the veterinary area, put in a heating lamp, give it IV fluids and give it sugar water to help it recover.

Continuously on May 24, every hour, the veterinarians had to perform an IV, after 30 minutes, they gave it 15ml of sugar water to drink. By late afternoon of the same day, although still weak, the stork was able to stand up on its own.

“Currently, the caretakers are grinding the fish into small pieces and feeding it to this stork with a syringe. In the evening, we will assign someone to monitor and care for it, hoping that this stork will recover soon…” - a representative of Pu Mat National Park informed.
