Tram Chim National Park is the 4th Ramsar site in Vietnam.

The Ramsar recognition ceremony was held from 21-22/5/2012.

Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee said that Tram Chim National Park (Tam Nong District) has been recognized by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat as the 4th Ramsar site in Vietnam and the 2,000th Ramsar site in the world (the 3 previously recognized sites are Xuan Thuy National Park - Nam Dinh, Bau Sau wetland - Dong Nai, Ba Be lake area - Bac Kan).


As planned, the Ramsar recognition ceremony will be held from May 21-22, 2012, with the support of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Tram Chim National Park covers an area of ​​nearly 7,500 hectares, is a wetland of international importance in terms of biodiversity and conservation. It is also one of the eight most important bird conservation areas in Vietnam.MaleNowadays, there are many species of cranes, storks, and egrets.../.

The Ramsar Convention is an international convention for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands, with the aim of halting the progressive encroachment on and loss of wetlands now and in the future; recognizing the fundamental ecological functions of wetlands and their economic, cultural, scientific and recreational values.

This Convention was created and ratified by the participating states at a meeting in the cityRamsar,IranFebruary 2, 1971 and effective December 21, 1975.

A wetland to be recognized as a Ramsar site must meet 9 criteria. Some of the criteria are: the land must be home to rare, unique and typical species of flora and fauna. It must also play a supporting role for threatened ecosystems or species at risk of being endangered or extremely endangered, supporting species of flora and fauna that are important in maintaining biodiversity in a specific biogeographical region...
