"Incubator" for young researchers
(Baonghean) -The movement of creativity and scientific research (NCKH) of students in universities and colleges in recent years has developed quite strongly and spread widely. Club models, competitions, awards "Students in scientific research", "Young creative ideas" contest... have become the "cradle" for many creative ideas, topics, and scientific research projects of young people to reach far and wide, bringing practical benefits to the community and society.
From "nursery" in schools...
The “Young Intellectuals” Club of the Youth Union of Vinh University of Technical Education was established in April 2012. After only 8 months of operation, the Club has organized forums for exchange, sharing of learning and scientific research experiences; opened training courses, transferred science and technology and become a common home for creative ideas. According to the plan, in 2013, with the goal of “Improving the quality of teaching and scientific research among youth union members”, the school’s Youth Union will organize activities such as “Study Method Workshop”, “Electrical Skilled Worker Competition” and “Youth Science and Technology Award”.
Assessing the role and activities of the Youth Union in students' scientific research activities, Mr. Dang Quang Khoa - Secretary of the Youth Union of Vinh University of Technology and Education, said: "The Youth Union and the Student Association always consider the scientific research activities of union members and students as an important task, inseparable from the activities of the Union and the schools. Organizing academic clubs in faculties, organizing scientific research conferences, competitions... has aroused students' creativity, bringing out highly applicable ideas. In the coming time, the Club will also play the role of a "bridge" between the school and production and business units and enterprises through commitments to research and manufacture machines according to orders. Thereby, helping students grasp reality, avoiding the situation of "dry learning", learning without practice, and at the same time bringing operating costs for young people."

At Vinh University, student scientific research activities are considered an important goal in improving the quality of teaching and training of the school. Every year, the school provides funding and organizes student scientific research conferences to evaluate quality, encourage and promptly reward students with high-quality and highly applicable topics. In particular, training faculties organize specialized Olympic competitions, creating conditions for students to demonstrate their abilities and professional knowledge. In 2012, the Mathematical Olympiad team of students of the Faculty of Mathematics won high prizes at the National Mathematical Olympiad for students: 1 First prize, 1 Second prize and 2 Third prizes. In addition, faculties have made many improvements and improved the quality of specialized journals, which are forums for students to exchange and share their research results. The form of club and group activities has been expanded: "Tour Guide Club" (Faculty of History), "Programming Club" (Faculty of Information Technology); “Legal Practice Club” (Faculty of Law)... plays an important role in improving the quality and effectiveness of students’ scientific research. In the 2011-2012 school year alone, the whole school had nearly 1,000 scientific research topics, projects, and graduation theses of students, of which 26 topics were highly appreciated and 3 students won the “Young Vietnamese Scientific Talent” award.
With the characteristics of vocational school students, the Vietnam - Korea Industrial Technical College Union also has many forms to stimulate the movement of learning and scientific research among students. The established scientific research club has actively supported students in methods and funding for graduation projects, scientific topics, especially topics with practical applications applied to teaching practice or production, installation into products for sale.
To successfully apply scientific research works
Based on the reality that waste in Vinh City is always in a state of stagnation, student Dau Dinh Thuong (Class 50, majoring in Environmental Resources Management, Faculty of Geography, Vinh University) has carried out the topic: "Application of geographic information system in environmental management in Vinh City". The topic has solved the shortcomings in waste treatment in the city by applying geographic information to plan systematic waste collection routes, build landfills to ensure hygiene, safety, and not affect the environment.
The topic that student Dinh Trang Tho, K50 Agricultural Extension and Development registered for her graduation thesis is "Current situation and solutions for livelihoods of people in the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant area (Tuong Duong)". This future agricultural engineer said: "Currently, the livelihood issue for people in the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant area is a "hot" issue, attracting the attention of all levels and sectors. The lives of people in the reservoir area previously depended on nature. After the hydropower project was completed, the water level rose, the flow of the Nam Non River changed, the environment and ecology were different from before, so what to do to ensure livelihoods for people is a difficult problem. Based on practical surveys, with the knowledge I have learned, I hope that my topic will contribute a small part to finding solutions to help people stabilize their lives...".
Contributing to the improvement, increasing working efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and reducing the level of toxicity in car engine exhaust, the group of students Hoang Van Thu and Nguyen Van Minh (Faculty of Automotive Technology, Vinh University of Technology and Education) carried out the project "Research and manufacture of a dual coil ignition control model". This project has just been awarded 10 million VND by Toyota Vietnam Foundation to the "student group with excellent scientific research project".
It can be said that the scientific research projects and topics of students in recent years have high applicability, but the number of units "ordering" directly with students is still low. So, how to encourage students to do scientific research and promote the effectiveness of students' research projects? Dr. Tran Xuan Bi - Director of the Department of Science and Technology, said: "The issue of suggesting topics and scientific research projects of students to be linked to reality is very important; before proceeding, young people should clearly identify the purpose of the topic and where it comes from? When students are still studying at school, the issue of "ordering" is not easy to implement, it is very necessary to get involved, connect information, and link between the school and businesses and units. Another important thing is to have a mechanism to encourage students to participate in scientific projects of the province. Currently, the website of the Department of Science and Technology has provided programs that focus on scientific issues that need to be solved. Students can refer to them and find suitable topics for research, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province in particular and the country in general."
