(Baonghean.vn) - Today, March 31, about 30 million Ukrainian voters began going to the polls to elect a new president in this country. There are a total of 29,888 polling stations in 199 districts and cities. In addition, the government also organized 101 other polling stations in 72 countries around the world, except in Russia.

Thirty-nine candidates took part in the election, setting an unprecedented record. According to the polls, the leading candidate is People's Party representative Vladimir Zelensky, a comedian and TV presenter, with 24.9% of the vote.

Next are incumbent president Petro Poroshenko and leader of the “Batkivschina” party Yulia Tymoshenko.

Candidate Zelensky created a "phenomenon" when he transformed from a famous satirical actor to the leader of the presidential race in a very short time.

During the presidential campaign, unlike other candidates who used maximum frequency of appearances on television, participated in various talk shows, or used radio waves to directly campaign for politics, candidate Vladimir Zelensky announced that he would broadcast the election process live on the Telegram application (one of the most popular messaging applications in the world).

According to election law, if no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote on March 31, the top two candidates will enter the second round, scheduled for April 21.

In addition, in order to create a transparent and fair election, the Ukrainian government invited more than 2,000 official observers from 18 international organizations and 18 countries to monitor the voting process. However, there was not a single representative from Russia.
