Welbeck to Arsenal for $26.6 million

Arsenal made a last-minute deal to buy back the young striker from Man Utd, replacing Oliver Giroud who suffered a long-term injury.

Danny Welbeck arrived at the Emirates after Man Utd successfully loaned Radamel Falcao from Monaco. The 23-year-old striker underwent a medical with Arsenal in the hotel where England were playing a friendly in the middle of this week.

Welbeck was born in Manchester and joined Man Utd's youth system at the age of 8. He scored 29 goals in 142 appearances for the club.

On the final day of the transfer market, Welbeck was contacted by both Arsenal and Tottenham. It was thought that the former Man Utd striker would join Spurs because this team was more aggressive, but in the end, Arsenal was the team that won Welbeck's signature.

Coach Arsene Wenger, in a "hot water" moment, is leading a team to play in a charity tournament in Rome. His colleagues at home have successfully completed the purchase of a striker to replace Oliver Giroud, who is injured until the end of the year. Welbeck is one of three strikers that coach Louis Van Gaal has let go this summer, after Wilfried Zaha and Chicharito.
